PRP
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. It consists of extracting blood, separating it by centrifuge and then injecting the platelet rich part back into the scalp. Main objective of PRP treatment is to enrich the blood circulation and activate the cellular rejuvenation.
How is it prepared and applied?
8-10ml or more blood is taken from the patient into a special centrifuge tubes. These tubes are placed into the centrifuge machine which separates the red blood cells by microfiltration. Once completed the centrifuge process, we obtain a platelet rich part of the blood, which can usually be seen in yellowish color. This platelet rich plasma is injected back into the scalp especially where the hair is thinner. Platelets which mainly provides blood coagulation, also contains growth factors. Therefore they are very beneficial if applied to:
- Scars
- Dermocosmetic rejuvenation
- Cracked and wrinkled skin
- Hair loss
- Orthopedics treatments
In this way, patients can have obvious benefits from a completely natural treatment which does not contain any artificial material.
PRP as Hair Treatment
Hair loss is mostly caused by genetics. According to the medical researches, it is normal to lose 100-150 hair strands a day. If you have further hair loss, PRP is one of the best treatments that have benefits.
PRP is obtained from patient’s blood and is rich in growth factors. Once applied, it stimulates the hair roots and repairs the scalp skin, which makes the hair stronger and slows the hair loss down. It is usually recommended to do 4-6 sessions with one month between each session.
PRP or any other treatment can not create “new hair”. It is impossible to grow new hair in any part of the scalp that there is not any hair follicle. Main objective of PRP, Mesotherapy, MesoPRP, vitamin supplements, shampoos or sprays is to stop or slow down the further hair loss. There is not any other remedy for growing “new” hair than a hair transplant.
PRP treatment can also be applied after a hair transplant procedure – but you should wait for a month after the procedure. It helps with the growing of implanted hair follicles and also have a positive effect on healing process by stimulating blood circulation. After a hair transplant, 4 sessions of PRP treatment is recommended. It is beneficial not only to your native hair but also to implanted follicles.
