LON Method
The LON method, also known as Lengthening Over Nail, is a limb lengthening technique that combines an internal intramedullary nail with an external fixation device.
During the lengthening phase, the internal nail and external fixator work together to support gradual bone distraction. After the planned lengthening is completed, the external fixator is removed with a minor procedure, while the internal nail remains in place until the newly formed bone consolidates.
- Combines internal and external fixation
- Often preferred because of lower overall cost
- Requires temporary use of an external fixator
- Recovery and rehabilitation planning are essential
